**Description**


The Medical Billing Specialist supports Sutter Medical Foundation billing activity by auditing charge postings routinely and identifying areas for billing improvements and controlling billing rejections. Also assists in identifying billing compliance issues by auditing chart notes, operative notes as well


as hospital documentation. Responsible for insuring timely and accurate resolution of billing and coding errors for their assigned region by working with centralized batching areas.


**Qualifications**


**Education/ Knowledge,including Licensure/ Certification/ Registration:**




+ High School Diploma or equivalent, college course workpreferred.

+ Certification in physician coding by American HealthInformation Management Association (AHIMA - CCS-P) or AmericanAcademy of Professional Coders (AAPC - CPC).





**Knowledge:**




+ Knowledge of ICD-10, CPT and HCPCS coding.

+ Knowledge and understanding of all insurance plans,including government, PPO and capitated plans.

+ Computer billing, problem solving, and accountsreceivable proficiency.

+ Knowledge of medical terminology.

+ Must maintain currency with CMS regulatoryguidelines, insurance billing requirements, state and federal laws andregulations governing capitated, contractual and administrativewrite-offs, third party liabilities and bad debt.

+ Ability to function independently, identify problemsand implementation of resolutions

+ with minimal direction and guidance.

+ Customer service skills sufficient to interfaceeffectively with managers, clinicians, staff members and patients.

+ Organizational skills sufficient to keep records andrecognize inefficient work processes.

+ Requires ability to learn all Care Center & RevenueCycle related computer functions and billing practices.

+ Understanding of internal audit principles sufficientto support regional care centers.

+ Communicate with physicians effectively regardingbilling errors and solutions.





**Experience:**




+ Minimum of 2 years of radiology coding experiencepreferred.

+ Minimum of 2 years medical group billing/registrationexperience preferred.

+ Professional experience sufficient to recognize andmake appropriate judgment regarding care center billing operationalissues.

+ Knowledge of ICD-10, CPT and HCPCS coding.

+ Knowledge and understanding of all insuranceplans, including government, PPO and capitated plans.

**Skills:**




+ Proven skill in analyzing situations and making timelydecisions in areas of accountability.

+ Typing speed and accuracy at 45 CWPM, allowing forthe accurate computer entry of the needed volume of data, and toquery accounts while patients are on the phone.

+ Excellent telephone and customer service skills.Ability to present coding and billing information in both large and smallgroup settings.
